“In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.” — John 1:4
“…you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house…” — 1 Peter 2:5
Every believer is called a living stone, placed by God into His spiritual house. But no building can stand without life and no structure can function without light. This is why Christ becomes both our Life and our Light—so He can build us, strengthen us, and fit us together for His purpose.
1. Christ as Our Life
Christ doesn’t just give life—
He is our Life.
His life renews what was broken, strengthens what was weak, and revives what was dying. Just as a building needs a solid foundation, your spiritual growth needs the life of Christ flowing in your heart daily.
His life:
Restores joy where discouragement tried to settle
Heals the inner places that human effort cannot reach
Produces growth, maturity, and stability
When Christ’s life fills you, you don’t just survive spiritually—you grow, you stand, and you become part of God’s greater design.
2. Christ as Our Light
Light reveals. Light guides. Light protects.
Christ as Light shines into every area of your life so the building of God within you is clear, strong, and unmixed with darkness. His light exposes wrong foundations, unhealthy patterns, and hidden places that need healing.
His light brings:
Clarity in confusion
Direction in uncertainty
Purity in the heart
Wisdom in decisions
Every builder needs light to see clearly. Every believer needs Christ’s light to walk rightly. Bishop David
3. Built Together in Him
The spiritual house God is building is not individual—it is corporate.
You are a living stone, but you are not the only one. Christ’s life makes you alive; His light shows you where you fit. And together, we become a dwelling place for His glory.
Where His life flows, unity develops.
Where His light shines, love deepens.
Where both life and light are present, God builds.
Reflection Questions
Is Christ’s life actively growing in me, or am I relying on my own strength?
Are there areas where I need the light of Christ to expose, correct, or guide?
Am I allowing God to place me in His spiritual building alongside others?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, be my Life and my Light. Fill me with Your life so I may grow and stand strong. Shine Your light into every hidden place and guide my steps in Your truth. Build me together with Your people into a spiritual house that reveals Your glory. Amen.
